USA Olympic basketball team wins the gold after historic loss
Daniel Ebersole - Sophomore | Sports The U.S.A. Men’s Basketball team has lost six times in the Olympics and have outscored their opponents by 28 points per game. The closest to those figures is the Soviet Union, with double the losses and half the point differential. These stats just graze the surface in illustrating the dominant present and past of the Stars and Stripes. But going into the Olympics, they had lost 2 of their last 4 exhibition games. Chargerette gives advice on returning back to school this fall
Dear Chargerette, School is starting back up and I have to admit, I got a little lazy over the summer. I wasn’t working out, I wasn’t outside enough, I barely read, I barely did anything! I need to get back into a routine that is going to help me better myself. I don’t want to get into the habit of just sitting around doing nothing productive. I feel like a slug half the time and I hate it. You know that thing people say, “Don’t just survive, thrive?” Well I want to thrive

There are many factors that go into the process of learning, and many ways to apply them. Most recognize studying only as its most traditional form- as the process of reading a textbook or going through worksheets. However, research suggests that we can

Recycling in Cookeville may not be as honest as it seems
Logan Bowman - Sophomore | Feature Every day, Americans are told to recycle to keep material waste down and landfills empty, yet a startling amount of plastic recycling collected isn't actually recycled. Unfortunately, the end result is that 91% of discarded plastics are dumped in landfills, and the 9% that do get recycled are often unable to be broken down for various reasons. This figure doesn't bode well, as there is an ever-increasing demand for plastic-based goods.

The Putnam County Fair and other unfortunate local happenings
Kaylin Moore - Senior, Co-Editor and Claire Cranford - Junior, Copy Editor | Feature The Putnam County Fair: a monument to summer’s end, seventh graders, fiends, and juggalos. It also signifies the start of another year of school, providing an escape for students to abandon their domesticity after their first day back. The fair turns into a school reunion of sorts, and whether that’s good or bad, we are unsure. But, according to students, that’s not the only bad quality

Algood's "Redskin" mascot needs to be replaced
Spencer Green - Senior | Opinions On Feb. 4, the Putnam County school board voted against forming a committee to investigate the possibility of changing the Algood Middle School mascot, the Redskins. Statistics show that nearly 0% of Algood is Native American and 95.44% of Algood is white. Any educated person should be able to conclude that the minority is not properly represented. The etymology of the word “redskin” dates back to 1769, when it was used by an American In
