Few can claim the illustrious and esteemed title of Teacher of the Month. Claiming said title requires an individual to go above and beyond what is expected of a teacher. In spite of this, Dr. Ciara Cassity is more than deserving of this merit.
Ciara Cassity—formerly Pittman—teaches English I Honors and English III. She has expressed that her immense love of books and writing are what inspired her to be a teacher in the first place.
"I think I always enjoyed reading and English class," said Cassity. "So I kind of always knew that I would want to do something involving reading and writing at one point."
Cassity cited her love of helping others as a reason for her interest in teaching as a profession.
Her hobbies include reading, spending time with her family, mini golfing, and baking. Interestingly, she nearly passed up teaching in favor of becoming a pastry chef.
Cassity is undoubtedly a hard worker, and she earned her doctorate for Exceptional Literacy Leaning in 2020.
"Just understand that there is a learning curve. It's a process of growth and it's not easy, but it's worth it," said Cassity on obtaining her doctorate.
Cassity is undoubtedly successful. She defines success as "a life of happiness. If a person is truly happy, he or she is successful."
She attributes this outlook on success to her mother.
"I think my mom is my biggest inspiration," she said. "She has had so many challenges in her life, but she always has a smile on her face and makes caring for others her first priority."
It is true that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Cassity exhibits these admirable qualities as well in achieving her goals.
"Helping my own child and my students succeed in life while making them feel loved and accepted is probably the most important thing I could ever achieve," said Cassity.
In addition to goals, Cassity has faced many challenges.
"I think my greatest challenge so far was attending school full-time while teaching and being a mom," said Cassity.
Compassionate, hardworking, and determined, Cassity proved herself worthy as Teacher of the Month. Most importantly, she inspires iohers to be the best version of themselves.
