Cookeville High School is home to many incredibly talented people, and it is exciting to learn about the skills they possess. Everyone has a talent, whether it be big or small. Even though some talents may seem useless, some of them can be a fun hobby to learn or can create something new.
Hidden talents have many forms, ranging from being double-jointed or solving Rubik's cubes, to speaking multiple languages. They can also be a fun trick with no true benefit.
Some talents are natural and exist from birth but most, like soft skills, are refined throughout one’s life. Talents like these are very important and valuable to have.
Senior Magnolia Preston makes beaded drink holders, portrait drawings, and henna designs.
When asked about how she got the inspiration to create the drink holders, she stated, “it started because I was making a lot of beaded artwork and jewelry for fun … so I made one for my dad … he started using it and everybody kept complimenting him on it and a lot of people started telling me I should sell them! So I did, and then it turned into doing other artistic things because I’ve just always been a creative person.”
Senior Abbey Alford can name any Taylor Swift song after listening to just the introduction, which is impressive considering that there are over 200 songs by her.
Junior Iza Marchell can crochet and embroider many designs and can create many different things. She usually embroiders flowers and crochets gifts for others. This skill takes a lot of practice and determination but results in a beautiful piece of art.
Everyone has their own hidden talent, whether it is being good at singing or playing multiple instruments, or even just being able to communicate well with others. Talents can make life easier or just be a fun trick to show off to impress your friends.
