There have been rumors about how prom will be happening this year: that it will be outside, people must be socially distanced, or even that it will not happen at all. To find the truth, the first step is to find the people in charge of prom.
For the past several years, the art department has been in charge of prom at Cookeville High School.
Do not worry -- prom is happening this year, and while it will not be the exact same, the art department is working its hardest to make it the best prom yet. The entire commons area and mezzanine will be open for students, making much more room available than in previous years. The art department has hired draping and lighting companies to make the large area as aesthetically pleasing as it can be.
"This year's colors will be lilac and periwinkle: very on trend with current popular colors. We’re going for a very spring-y, garden-y look. It's going to be beautiful." said art teacher Mr. White.
As far as COVID-19 guidelines go, no plans are set in stone. The art department is currently planning to hold a meeting with school board members and health officials to establish rules. While no decision has been made, masks will likely be required, as they were last year, and extra room will be available so people uncomfortable in crowds will not be forced into one.
Ms. Robin Ford put it best: "This year's Prom will be different from anything we've ever done, but I'm really excited about it. It's going to be beautiful."
