Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was the representative for Georgia until the house concluded a vote of 230-199 to remove her from her assignments. The precedent that caused the vote to occur were several controversial statements Greene has made. She believes in three theories such as California wildfires caused by “Jewish Space Lasers”, The Parkland shooting hoax, and the 2020 presidential election fraud.

Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted about how she believes the 2018 California wildfires were caused by solar panels beaming the sun’s light back to earth.

“There are all these people who have said they saw what looked like lasers or blue beams of light causing the fires, and pictures and videos.” said Greene.

She continues to defend her stance by stating the mistakes of a new machine can create consequences such as fires. Greene also believes that the Parkland school shooting and several other mass shootings were staged for political gain.

“I am told that Nancy Pelosi tells Hillary Clinton several times a month that ‘we need another school shooting’ in order to persuade the public to want strict gun control.” said Greene.

Many media outlets have refuted this claim; The March for Our Lives organization responded, “The shooting at our school was real. Real kids died and our community is still grieving today. You should be ashamed of yourself and resign from Congress.”

Over the past several months, there has been a large debate about the 2020 election and voter fraud. Greene believes that Trump won the election, but was cheated due to voter fraud; she tweeted on Dec. 20, "The people re-elected Donald Trump. Now, it's time to #FightForTrump."

On the other hand, the Justice Department released a statement that says, “to date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”

The vote that would punish Greene for her theories took place on Feb. 4, 2021. Some Republican Representatives have said “that Democrats’ efforts to censor Greene would set a dangerous precedent.”

However, even members of Greene’s own party condemn her actions.

“As a member of Congress, we have a responsibility to hold ourselves to a higher standard.” said Kevin McCarthy, a Republican Representative.
