Oftentimes, many people come up with resolutions in the new year. Some more common goals include weight loss, better money management, dieting. Everyone has a goal or even multiple goals they would like to pursue to better themselves or their everyday life, but how good are they at following through?
One particular study from 2020 showed that 35% of people kept up with multiple New Year's resolutions. Way to go! That’s some pretty productive and determined people. It is always awesome to add new and fun aspects to your life, like picking up a new hobby or taking more time for yourself throughout the year. For some, it feels great to strive daily to keep up with their resolutions.
49% of people kept up with at least one resolution, and that is totally awesome too! Some people only make one resolution and honestly, that is way easier! For those that make many and only keep up with a few, do not lose hope! You’ve still got this! So what -- you had a few too many, the most important ones to you have stuck, and now you know what to work towards more. To me, it's a win!
16% of people surveyed dropped their resolutions completely, but I can’t say I blame them. It’s always hard to change daily aspects of normal life. I made a New Year's resolution to eat healthier and I would be lying if I said I didn't cheat on my new diet every once in a while. Everybody does it!
Just because you make a New Year's resolution, that doesn't mean you have to follow it to the letter. At the end of the day, a New Year’s resolution is about improving your life and making you happier. If going to the gym is something you decide is not best for you, drop that resolution! Never feel bad for doing what is best for yourself.
If you or a family member or friend have come up with a resolution or two, be encouraging! Tell them “Great work!” or “Keep it up!” I find it a lot easier to stay up with my diet when I hear things like “I’m proud of you!” from my mom or a “Your hard work will pay off!” from a friend. The choice of making a change in your life is completely up to you! So make that change -- or don't!
