We are officially 1 year into the pandemic which has brought many changes as to how the world works, and the entertainment industry is no exception. Companies have had the struggle of figuring out how they can still hold ball games and shoot television shows while maintaining pandemic-safe policies. As a result, these events are broadcasted across streaming services and television, leaving stadiums and theaters empty.
Highly anticipated big-budget movies such as “Wonder Woman 1984” and Disney’s “Soul” have been moved straight to HBO Max and Disney Plus respectively, allowing you to watch in the comfort of your home. More movies may follow a similar pattern because of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases throughout the United States.
In addition to more and more movies being shifted straight to streaming services, companies such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video create their own content, providing thousands of shows one click away. A free trial will also be offered in order to entice the customer into subscribing.
Unfortunately, Broadway closed this past spring and has stayed closed. Part of the magic that Broadway has is the live performances, which is lost when recorded. Another concern for recording and streaming Broadway shows is the fear of people choosing to watch at home rather than going into the theater, which would ultimately close Broadway for good. However, the new vaccines give many hope for Broadway, with the most enthusiastic of them hoping to get back in the theaters by late summer or early fall.
Sports have also changed. For the first time, games have been played with the least amount of people in the stadium possible. Instead of watching the game in person, America has learned to watch it at home. There has been, and is, a lot of uncertainty on how to proceed concerning sports. The fans energize the players and also help fund their team.
It also seems that the 55th Super Bowl is very tentative. It wouldn’t be fair to play the last game of the season if your star players are sick with the coronavirus. Whether or not to let fans pack themselves into the stadium is another concern. As always, the Super Bowl will be broadcast this year on CBS, and we are sure to see a plethora of the famous Super Bowl commercials.
