Vice President Kamala Harris officially began her campaign for President on July 21 after Joe Biden dropped out of the election. Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for this election.
Since Harris’ campaign started, she has received numerous endorsements from political figures like Joe Biden, Barack, Michelle Obama, Bill, and Hillary Clinton. Three former presidents endorsing her will be a great tool for her campaign because their presidencies were so recent.
"And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that [my name on the ballot] would be the topic ... and I thought it'd be a real distraction," Biden said in an interview with Axios Local.
Biden’s concern about his name being on a ballot is an issue, but his confidence in Harris to take his place on the ballot is redeeming.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” Biden wrote on a recent social media post.
Biden’s endorsement is arguably the most influential as of now. He is still the president, so the democratic party will most likely be voting for Harris in the election.
89% of democrats approved of Harris after Biden was inaugurated in 2021.
However, she has a below-average approval rating from all Americans, as only 39% have voted that they approve of her work as vice president according to Redfield & Wilton Strategies.
Harris has broken many race and gender barriers being the first African-American, South Asian, female attorney general, and vice president. Voters will decide in November if they approve of her campaign.
