One of CHS’ seniors, Chasidy Fly, recently received a mysterious phone call that gave her the opportunity of a lifetime.
“It all started when I got a call from the Marines. It was weird because I never answer numbers that I don't know. But something led me to answer, and I kept talking to this man and he asked me all these questions to see if I was qualified and we actually set up an appointment for me to go see him.” said Fly.
Chasidy comes from a family of soldiers. Her father was in the army as she was growing up, but she never thought as a kid she would go into the army. She has always excelled in all things science, math, and especially english.
She took the practice ASVAB, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, and made a 91, allowing her to consider joining the Space Task Force. She immediately jumped at this chance.
Once she graduates high school, she plans on getting a master’s degree for free through the army’s program. Fly will eventually go into the intelligence field, hoping to one day become a fusion analyst, entailing an analysis or break down of any signals from space to determine if they are threats or not. She was even told by her recruiters she could one day in the future be a part of the CIA.
“We live in a small town and we do small town things, and so you never expect you’ll have such big opportunities. A lot of people don't even know who I am and so it means a lot when many people look at Facebook posts and are so proud that I come from their town. It's just really cool that I could do something like this.” said Fly.
As Chasidy’s high school years come to an end, she leaves with fond memories, good friends, and a very bright future ahead of her.
To anyone looking for some encouragement, Chasidy says, “Don’t be afraid to push the limits. I never saw myself going into the military or doing something as big as this, but an opportunity can always arise and change your path for the good. Be brave and step out of your comfort zone. You have no idea where that could lead you.”
