Chargerette on promposal ideas

Dear Chargerette,

I need help! Obviously I am going to go to prom with my boyfriend, but I want to be the one to ask him. Got any good promposal ideas?

Dear Promposer,

The girl asking the guy? Awesome! There are plenty of cute promposals you could do. It just depends on what he likes. Any of these would work if the tables were turned and the guy was asking a girl as well.

1. Loves His Pet: If he has an animal with a collar, you could attach a note asking him to prom to the animal and let your boyfriend find it. If they don’t have a collar, you could find another way to attach the note, like loosely tying a piece of string around their neck.

2. Loves Sports: A fun way to ask a sporty guy to prom is to write a note on his equipment. Just make sure it’s washable! Depending on what sport he does, he might not have anything you can write on. If that’s the case, write on a piece of paper and stick it in his athletic shoes or something like that.

3. Loves Music: Write him a song! If you can sing or play an instrument, this promposal would be perfect for you guys! Don’t ask him with a poster or big gesture, ask him with your music.

4. Loves His Car: If he’s one of those guys that really loves his car, decorate it! It would be really hard to miss and it would mean something to him. Be really careful though that whatever you use to decorate it doesn't hurt the paint or anything, that would be really bad! Post-It notes are the most commonly used for this kind of thing because they don’t damage the car. If you want to use something different, go ahead. I suggest Googling it first though, just in case!

5. Loves to Read: This is a cute idea for any bookworm. Sneakily borrow his book and replace his bookmark with a little note inviting him to prom. He’ll love it!

6. Loves Food: This could be for a guy that really likes to eat or that likes to cook. Either way, make or buy him his favorite food and find a way to write “Prom?” on it. Yummy and sweet!

7. Loves a Foreign Language: This could be a language he takes at school or speaks natively. Learn how to say “Will you go to prom with me?” in that language and go ask him! If you guys take the class together, write it down on paper and pretend to not know what it says. Ask him for “help” translating it and once he does, hopefully he’ll be really surprised!

8. Friend Group: If you guys are in the same friend group, have them help out. You could have them line up and hold signs that spell out “Prom?” or something similar. Get creative!

9. Balloons: Tie a balloon to his desk, or his car, or somewhere else he would see it and write “pop me” on it. Once he pops it, he’ll find a note inside inviting him to prom. You could put confetti in it if you want to add some extra flair.

10. Subtle: Write him a note asking him with a box where he can check “Yes” and a box where he can check “No.” Slip it into his backpack or have a friend give it to him sometime. If you wanted to be a little funny, instead of a yes or no option, you could have both boxes say “Yes.”

11. Simple: He may be the kind of guy that would appreciate it more if you just asked him straight from the heart instead of getting all fancy. There’s nothing wrong with doing it the old-fashioned way.
